Thank You. I think I understand what you mean about toleration. The strange thing is that these divisions in my family that have arisen because of racism were never apparent to me until Donald Trump arrived. I am sure they were there, but I will be honest, I had blinders on to how many people felt. I attended a suburban school that was 20% black and other than sitting together at lunch no one ever broached the subject. We all hung out and got along. As a young white man in 2005, if you asked me if the country had a race problem, I would have said just in the South and maybe among the older generation. Now, I am embarrassed to not have noticed how deep it ran. It is like Trump gave people the okay.

Luckily, my immediate family is not to blame, but dealing with extended family is problematic and trust me I am aware that it is cowardly to let some of the relatives slide. It is the price I pay for my parents, siblings, and other relatives to not to have to take my side in a family squabble. I know it is of little comfort and unfair that I selectively choose my moments.

Thank you for taking the time to read.
